Gallery Of the Absurd To Reinvent Itself

Lv2

I'll be scaling back the postings on Gallery of the Absurd to once a week until January '09. Taking some much needed time away from celebrity gossip, I'll be posting daily on Resplendent Chaos (my other blog) while I take a little time to experiment with fresh inspiration, new techniques, and learning the basics of animation. After nearly 4 years of illustrating the stories told about celebrity gossip, my engines of creation have finally come to halt. I still have a little more in me and will post here when the inspiration hits, but I look forward to expanding the subject matter of Gallery of the Absurd to beyond just celebrity gossip and will engage in more creative collaboration with other bloggers in the future. ABOVE: An image from Las Vegas Chronicles, a series of paintings, sketches and photographs from my recent people watching adventure in Las Vegas. Honestly, most of the people I saw walking the Las Vegas strip were far more interesting than boring celebrities.

It may not be broke, but I sure am!

He looks like an alternate Universe version of Richard Gere, for whom things did'nt go quite so well...

As for the change in direction;I've had a feeling you desired a change in course for a while. All good ideas have a limited shelf life*,no matter how well concieved. The more shrewd among us recognise this fact and move into other areas.Celebrity culture is only a small facet of our collective existence, expanding your horizons seems like a wise move.
Have fun.

*I thought I'd add a small caveat here for all the smart alec people who might bring up ideas such as the wheel, the printing press, number systems and writing as examples of ideas that do not have a limited shelf life. There are of course some exceptions to my sweeping generalization.

That's wonderful, 14! I've been checking Resplendent Chaos regularly and I'm glad to hear you're planning to focus on your art practice rather than your 'celebrity practice'! Don't get me wrong, I love GOTA, but it's great to hear that you want to take time to work on your personal stuff. I recently threw in the mouse and got out my brushes, pens and art paper to do the same thing. The need to feed the internet becomes a curse...

I love your work. Now I'll love it at your other site. Good on you!

Sparky! Thanks darlin'. Please DO email samples of your paintings as I always like looking at new art.

Haven't checked out 'Replendent Chaos' or 'Las Vegas Chronicles' yet but looking forward to doing so.

Been following your work for a while, 14. I enjoy it so much and wish you well for the continuing journey.

Miss Mezza

Resplendent Chaos it is, then. I'd gladly view the doodles on the back of your dry-cleaning receipts, so please keep drawing, whatever your inspiration. And now, I'm off to Resplendent Chaos.

Change is necessary every once in a while. People have to remember that if you keep trying to do something of which you no longer feel inspired, it will eventually go stale. Good for you for keeping true to yourself and your work. If you only put it out there for the masses it wouldn't be as great as it is. Resplendent Chaos is a fantastic site... looking forward to continuing to watch you grow and explore new artistic areas. Fun fun fun!

Say it isn't so! : (

I'm not going away forever or anything - I'm just taking some time away for a month or two to find fresh inspiration. I'll post here once in while in between messing around on Resplendent Chaos.

Thanks for commenting!

Celebrity gossip is like cheap whiskey- fun at first, but you wind up with a nasty taste in your mouth and a pounding headache. That's your random analogy for the day.

I'm all about changing directions. About every year or so, I shake things up. It's really amazing you've stayed with this for so long and so consistently! If there was something I could stay with for longer than a month, I'd be happy. Fortunately for those I date, my attention span in relationships is not quite that short.

Anyway. Yes. Lovely painting. Is it weird the first thing I thought of upon seeing this picture is "Oh, I bet you could scrub dishes with that chest hair!"? I mean... not that you'd want to.. the logistics would be awkward, and I can only hope it's not yellowish like with some old men... Er, I'm not biased against old men or anything. I generally like them with a beard and a red suit. Even if he never brought presents for ME.

Aren't people great? I remember vividly your collection of butts. In fact I think I must check on that now. Good luck with your changes and all that.

Cheers,
Kai

Good for you! You deserve a break from the soul sucking void that is the celebrity gossip meat grinder. Just promise us all that if Britney goes off her meds any time soon, you'll be back in two shakes of a lamb's tail to visually deconstruct it for us.

I am glad that you are doing exactly what you want and taking a break. You deserve it. I am going to miss your hysterical illustrations but it will be that much more funny the fewer there are. I hope you enjoy your time away from the celebrities!

14, I will miss your celebrity art. You so tastefully and intuitively put a mirror up to these characters. It's humorous and revealing to the subjects, I'm sure; and simply titillating to the rest of us.Enjoy your respite.

Such a brilliant idea! I love your style, and I've always thought that applying it mostly to celebrity gossip was such a waste. Does this mean we'll also get to see more of Botany in Wonderland? I think those were my favorite.

You have so much talent and insight that you can go with whatever you're feeling and it will work out!

As I understand the creative process, you are doing the exact thing that you should.
Forever your art slave,
Dr.L.

Very Good Art.. small white hair on the beard shows how meticulous the artist was.. Great Job.

Andy

Don't know squat about the creative process, but trust that you do. Thanks for your work here. Best wishes at whatever you're up to. I will always remember the "Three Disgraces".
